Ben, Miri, her husband Dan, and I went shopping for Ben’s suit last night. We ended up finding him a tuxedo for the wedding on the clearance rack at Macy’s. Between the clearance price, sale, and Ben opening a new account, the tux cost about $180. Plus, my dad will still get to take Ben shopping for all the accessories and maybe to get it tailored as well.
The suit was a lot harder to find. Ben wears a 40 long, and looks best in the slimmer, European cut suits. The stores my dad suggested we check out carried more of the standard America business suits, which just looked boxy and borrowed on Ben. We finally ended up, after trying a few other stores first, at Men’s Warehouse. We called ahead to see how late they’re open, so they were expecting us when we showed up 10 minutes later and the first suit Ben tried on looked great on him, a soft black suit with a subtle gray pinstripe. The hard part turned out to be finding a shirt and tie. Apparently 14 1/2″ fitted shirts with a 33-34″ sleeve are really rare. Oops. They had two in Ben’s size, both a saturated sky blue, which thankfully is a great color on him. Then we had to find a tie, the best looking one had daisies on it, the store manager found the winner with a modern paisley. Thankfully, by opening a new store card and taking advantage of sale prices. Ben got a whole suit/shirt/tie outfit, including tailoring, for about $600.
It’s a shame it’s not at all affordable for me to go to this Bat Mitzvah too. I haven’t really met this side of Ben’s family yet and he’s going to look sharp! I want to be his arm candy.
